Armati

A armed man (often called an armatus or armati in period records) was a well-equipped fighting soldier who served alongside men-at-arms but was generally of lower social status. Typically drawn from the yeoman or prosperous common classes, they fought with weapons such as the spear, bill, poleaxe, or sword and wore a mix of mail and plate armor according to their means. Armed men were an essential part of an English retinue, providing disciplined infantry support during campaigns.
